O2h is in the midst of developing a state-of-the-art Greenfield research campus with 28 lab units accommodating 300+ scientists, to international specifications. Its design ethos has put the working comfort and creativity of the scientist first. This building incorporates the highest standards of safe operations and the latest in both proven and experimental environmental thinking applicable to discovery research activity in the extreme Indian climatic conditions.

The central focus of this design are highly spacious 12/16 fume-hood reconfigurable modules, called lab units, designed to be self-sufficient IP secure areas which also encompass a dedicated and secure 10 man write-up area. The modularity of the building design ensures a high level of security for each of the lab units whilst benefitting from an integrated engineering, services and support. These units are accessible exclusively through key-card access at all entry points and contain secure IT infrastructure to further protect IP.

A surrounding research campus supports the activities of the lab units with shared facilities such as a top floor client-suite designed with traditional Japanese features, an all glass conference area which is suspended between two wings of the campus overlooking the central courtyard and a social entrepreneurship zone supporting work in the local community. To create an environment where scientists can be mentally refreshed, the building is interspaced with creatively designed courtyards which draw on the ancient stepwell architecture of Gujarat. Scientists can also visit the gymnasium or take a break in the open eating areas which overlook the courtyards. The reception area at the front of the building is free from restrictions of engineering required to support the core function of the building. It breaks into a unique architectural form, geometry and shape, reminiscent of maverick western architecture, reminding the O2h team and visitor alike of the spirit of innovation permeating O2h geared towards bringing success to our collaborations, partnerships and organisation.
